Some thoughts on Plot is character. Character is plot.

I was thinking of writing about Christmas tree envy. Over the weekend I was beginning to experience it. All those beautiful trees I spied on my weekend at Sandringham, real or on the fictional side (artificial), made me wish I already had mine in place.
So today I went to Blenheim and chose a beauty. The man who was netting it saw me looking at one another customer was eyeing up and accused me of Christmas tree envy.
'How funny!', I said, ' I was just going to write about that.'

  1. I'm never sure about 'real Christmas trees' For me a proper Christmas tree is made out of green bottle brushes that fold away and can be re-used every year.

  2. You are harking back to your youth in the Northern Wilderness! Smell the tree. Does it smell real? Feel it. Do the needles prick you? Look. Do they fall all over the presents underneath and get in everyone's socks? It may be a tree, but perhaps a bit of a quantum version.

  3. ok - so the bottlebrush one didn't have a smell - but it also didn't shed. If my parents hadn't junked it for some inferior tinsel version it would still be going strong.

  4. Understand that heirloom takes precedence over natural.
